Women's Contribution to Florida State Parks
Women’s History Month Special Presentation

Please join the Friends of Wakulla Springs and the Florida State Parks in recognizing and celebrating Women’s History Month with this very special presentation, "Women’s Contribution to Florida State Parks" by Former Park Manager Sandy Cook.

Sandy will share with you stories of the early years of the Florida Park Service.  She will highlight some of the untold stories and the important roles women have played in the development of our State Parks.

Sandy Cook became a Park Ranger in 1973 and throughout her 35-year career, she paved the way for women to be accepted as equal and valued members of the Florida Park Service team. By simply doing her job and doing it well, she became the first female supervisor, first female law enforcement officer, and the first female Park Manager in Florida. Thanks to Sandy and other strong women like her, there are now many women working in all areas of the Park Service from maintenance to interpretation to management.
