Things to Do and See at Wakulla Springs
There are many activities available at Wakulla Springs State Park. One of the favorites, of course, is the swimming area with its 2 story tower and two sunbathing platforms amid the clear, cool spring waters. The River Boat Tour is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. This 45 minute boat tour of the spring and downriver ecosystem is a bird lovers paradise, with a multitude of bird species seen on virtually every trip. Alligators are always visible on the cruise as well as the possibility of viewing one of our seasonal residents the Manatee.
There is an original soda fountain at the lodge that dates back to the mid 1930s with drinks, ice cream, sandwiches and a gift shop for souvenirs. The Wakulla Lodge also serves breakfast, lunch and dinner for those that want a little more. Of course you can stay at the lodge overnight or for several days if you wish. Go to the Wakulla Springs Lodge website for reservations and details.
Walking trails abound with over 10 miles of wandering trails through hardwood hammocks, spring floodplains, with a variety of foliage and champion trees, some found only here in their original grandeur. You can view the Sally Ward Spring Run from a foot bridge, and see if you can spot a manatee.
Picnic areas are available for families to enjoy, as well as a playground for the kids. Many families go swimming, have a picnic, play on the playground and get an ice cream at the soda fountain… this is truly a place for the whole family.
Please respect the wildlife, trees, flowers and the spring by keeping it clean and beautiful. We hope you enjoy your time here in this one of a kind place.
Edward Ball had a vision to preserve and study wildlife at Wakulla Springs. To this day this magnificent spring has continued to be an inspiration to generations of families in and around the North Florida Region. We owe it to our children and their children to continue to maintain and preserve this wonderful natural treasure.
Please help in our efforts to continue Mr. Ball’s vision now and into the future.
